A NEW YEAR
Yes, the summer is almost over, and we are about to embark on a new semester of education! We at the Christian Learning Centers of Greenville County cannot wait to see how the Lord works during this next semester. My name is Savanah Maskell, and I am a new teacher for the High School Released-Time program in Travelers Rest. I would like to share a little bit about myself so that you can get to know me and my vision for the coming school year.
I was born and raised in New England, spending almost all of my life in Maine. I grew up in a town sandwiched in between the beach and farm country. As a result I was involved in many outdoor activities by the sea shore, in the mountains, in the woods, and everything in between. I graduated high school in 2012, and then moved to South Carolina to pursue a degree at Bob Jones University. While there, I involved myself in every musical activity that I had time for, including choir, hand bells, band, woodwind groups, and a few tours! God worked all the way, growing my skill set and cultivating in my heart a love and desire for educating children. After four years I graduated with a BS in Music Education in May of 2016.
God blessed my family by saving my parents by grace through faith, and helping them raise their children to follow, love, and serve God. They taught us that we each had to make a personal decision to believe that Christ alone is the way of salvation, and I understood and committed my life to Jesus when I was a young child. God has since been developing me into the image of His Son.
A few weeks before my college graduation, I was searching for where God would have me teach in the coming school year. During my search, He led me to find Christian Learning Centers, where my good friend Benita Yan was teaching. They were going to be in need of a teacher for the following school year, so I started praying about whether God would have me serve with this unique ministry. After attending the CLC banquet and being present in a few Bible classes, I was sure that God was pulling my heart to apply for the job. I am so excited with how God is leading me, and I can’t wait to start teaching the students in the Travelers Rest community!
